Richter sickened by Bush’s remark<\/span>

Mike Richter is not impressed with U.S. President George Bush.<\/span><\/p>\n

The New York Rangers goaltender said he is “sickened” by Bush’s<\/span>
\n recent declaration that he wants terrorist Osama bin Laden “dead or<\/span>
\n alive.” Bin Laden is the main suspect in last week’s horrifying<\/span>
\n attacks in New York and Washington.<\/span><\/p>\n

“I think that (Bush’s remark) was entirely inappropriate,” Richter, a<\/span>
\n native of Abington, Pa., told Newsday. “I think it was sickening,<\/span>
\n actually. This is no cowboy movie. This is not something to be glib<\/span>
\n about. It scares me.”<\/span><\/p>\n

Richter and teammate Brian Leetch have a friend, John Murray, who<\/span>
\n still is missing in what is left of the World Trade Center. Richter<\/span>
\n was one of many Rangers who visited the site and talked to rescue<\/span>
\n workers.<\/span><\/p>\n

Richter hopes Bush uses common sense when the decision is made to go<\/span>
\n after the terrorists responsible for the attack.<\/span><\/p>\n

“Do something constructive about it,” Richter said. “It doesn’t<\/span>
\n mean\u00a0 just mobilizing troops and dropping bombs. Maybe there are some<\/span>
\n solutions to the problem that don’t involve bombing other innocent<\/span>
\n people, you know? It’s easy to dismiss bin Laden as evil and a<\/span>
\n madman. But killing him doesn’t end the situation. This is an idea<\/span>
\n we’re fighting.<\/span><\/p>\n

“We have bombed them in the past. We have tread upon their holy land.<\/span>
\n Maybe it’s something we don’t believe in, but why are our beliefs<\/span>
\n more important than theirs?”<\/span><\/p>\n
