RIP 28 May 1974 - 6 June 2002

New York, NY- Brian Trottier was pronounced dead on the scene at a press conference at Madison Square Garden on 6 Jun 2002, by Islander fans the world over. This 1974 2nd round draft pick of the NY Islanders grew to be a fan favorite as he is the all-time leading scorer for the franchise signed as head coach with the NY Rangers. One fan stated that it wasn't the fact he signed as a head coach but the fact that he did it with the Rangers, who are bitter rivals of the down to earth NY Islanders.

Quite possibly the biggest blow is the fact that so many fans supported Brian through all his trials and tribulations. These include such fiascos as the Brian Trottier Skating Academy, Glice (what the hell were you thinking, actually, what the hell are you thinking signing with the rangers?***), and upwards of $10million in real estate ventures gone bad. The fans stood behind him for years trying to have the sacred #19 retired up in the rafters of the cathederalesque, Nassau Coliseum.

Finally, the number is retired and Trotts turns his back on his fans and signs with the enemy in just under a year. Mr Trottier, you are dead to us.

One has to think, and this is quite funny, that if he maintained his loyalty and fidelity to his fans, he would probably be coaching the Colorado Avalanche. Instead, he is about 12-15 losses away from being mathematically eliminated form the playoffs.\

***One has to believe that Mr Trottier should follow the advise of George Castanza of Seinfeld fame and do the direct opposite of whatever his initial instinct tells him to do.
