We want Alan Hahn back.

Welcome to the only page on the Internet devoted wholly to the  NY Islanders beat reporter, Alan Hahn.

Some folks have mentioned, "Yo, Why you's wanna dis our boy Alan so harsh?"

Well it's like this, Alan is the ONLY New York area Islander's beat reporter.  Alan in our not so humble opinion is THE BEST, bar none, of all the sports writers in NY.  His ASK ALAN column is the best sports column in all of NY area sports.

Besides without Alan, Larry Brooks would never get any women :).

Alan Hahn has been with Newsday since 1995. He started covering the NHL and the Islanders beat in 1999. That year he also began writing weekly Islanders reports for The Sporting News. In his first season, Hahn earned the Newsday Publisher's Award for Sports Writing for his coverage of the Islanders, Rangers and Devils during the 1999-2000 season. He is a regular guest of ESPN Radio (1050 AM) host Scott Ferrall and occasionally will join Stan Fischler during Islanders pre-game shows on Fox Sports New York.

Hahn, 30, grew up in Lake Ronkonkoma, where he played street and roller hockey and enjoyed reading about the Islanders Stanley Cup dynasty in Newsday. Later in life, he played basketball at St. Anthony's High School and C.W. Post. His career in sportswriting began in 1994 at a weekly newspaper called the East Hampton Independent. At the Independant, he won two awards from the Press Club of Long Island for Best Sports Writing. His first position at Newsday was as a phone clerk taking scores from high school coaches. This season is his first writing the NHL Insider column every Sunday in Newsday.

This is the place where Newsday's reporters will receive a grade as to content and truth towards the Islanders, as a team, games they play, and general situational awareness about New York hockey.

This will be on selected articles written by Alan.  I just can't keep up with daily reviews.

ASK ALAN

       grades                          COLUMNS

           11 March 2002 - "The Right Direction"

I like the way you included Denis in there with the likes of Bourque and Orr.  I really like when you mention OUR players with respect.  I also like the mention of Ray at the end.  I have always had a special affinity for Ray and Healy for what they did back in 1993.  It was a good game and a good article.

11 March 2002 - "Who's This Guy? And What Did He Do to Kvasha?"

Nice Article Alan.  Oleg has been one of this season's biggest frustrations.  I for one was amazed at how quickly he recovered.  I think there were quite a few of us out there thye felt a sigh of relief thinking that Oleg was going to be out for a few weeks.  His new found hustle has been inspirational.  A quote from Alan's article that you should remember:

Perhaps he's realized the rewards of doing his job. Yesterday, when he was named the game's third star, he heard applause and even a few cheers.
"I wasn't expecting that," he (Kvasha) said. "But it feels good."
